Creating Posts
Paste Blog URL Workflow
Creating a GBP post starts with a single blog URL. Here is the full workflow:
- From your dashboard, navigate to the Create Post area.
- Paste the full URL of any public blog post into the input field. GBP Poster supports WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Shopify, and virtually any website that serves public HTML.
- Click Generate Summary. GBP Poster will fetch the page, extract the article content, and pass it to the AI for summarization.
- Review the generated summary in the editor. Make any edits you want.
- Choose your post type (UPDATE or OFFER), select your target locations, and click Publish.
The entire process typically takes under a minute. You can also save a post as a draft to come back to later.
How AI Summary Generation Works
When you paste a blog URL, GBP Poster uses the following process to generate your post summary:
- Content extraction — The system fetches your blog page and extracts the main article content, stripping away navigation, sidebars, ads, and other non-content elements.
- AI analysis — The extracted content is sent to our AI (powered by Claude) which reads and understands the full article, identifying key points, value propositions, and relevant details.
- Summary generation — The AI writes a concise, engaging summary optimized for Google Business Profile. It focuses on the most compelling aspects of your article and includes a natural call-to-action.
- SEO optimization — The summary is crafted with local search visibility in mind, incorporating relevant keywords naturally without keyword stuffing.
The AI generates a first draft that you can then edit freely. You always have full control over the final text before publishing.
Editing Summaries & Character Limits
After the AI generates a summary, you will see a full text editor where you can refine the content. Here are the key constraints and best practices:
| Metric | Guideline |
|---|---|
| Optimal length | 300 to 500 characters. This is the sweet spot for engagement and readability on Google Search and Maps. |
| Maximum length | 1,500 characters. Google will truncate anything beyond this limit. |
| Minimum length | No hard minimum, but posts under 100 characters tend to underperform. |
The editor displays a live character count so you always know where you stand. The AI aims for the 300-500 character range by default, but you can request longer or shorter summaries.
Tip: Keep paragraphs short (2-3 sentences max) and lead with the most compelling information. GBP posts are often viewed on mobile, so conciseness matters.
UPDATE vs OFFER Post Types
Google Business Profile supports several post types. GBP Poster currently supports the two most commonly used:
- UPDATE — The default and most versatile post type. Use it for sharing blog content, company news, tips, industry insights, or any general update. UPDATE posts appear in your profile's "Updates" tab and in search results.
- OFFER — Use this when your blog post promotes a specific deal, discount, or limited-time offer. OFFER posts can include a coupon code and redemption link, and they appear with a special "View offer" badge that draws attention.
Which should you choose? If your blog post is informational (how-to, guide, news), use UPDATE. If it is promoting a specific deal or promotion, use OFFER. When in doubt, UPDATE is the safer default.
City-Tailored Content
On Pro and Agency plans, when you publish to multiple locations, GBP Poster can automatically customize each post with city-specific content.
Instead of sending the same generic text to every location, the AI:
- References the specific city, neighborhood, or region for each location.
- Incorporates local landmarks, events, or context where relevant.
- Ensures each location gets a unique post, which helps with local SEO performance and avoids duplicate content signals.
City-tailored content is enabled by default on eligible plans. You can toggle it off for individual posts if you prefer a uniform message across all locations.
